FLY & DRIVE: Calabria & Puglia

Arrival at Lamezia Terme Airport. Arrival and check-in at the hotel in Tropea.

Breakfast at the hotel. Free morning to spend a few pleasant hours in the beautiful beaches of Calabria (private beach or Lido Affi liated). Afternoon transfer on your own car to Pizzo Calabro where it is possible to visit the Church of Piedigrotta, a church near the Sea built inside a rock wall. Visit Murat Castle and walk in the city center of Pizzo, where you can taste the famous “Tartufo” a typical ice cream of the area, famous and exported all over the world. Return to the hotel. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at your hotel accommodation.

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer on your own car to Tropea’s Port, where you can sail to Aeolian Islands. Day tour with visits of the three islands: Stromboli, Panarea and Vulcano. The Aeolian Islands are a famous Sicilian archipelagos, reachable in a few hours of navigation, rich in history and traditions and famous for the presence of two active volcanoes. In each of the islands you can have some free time to explore the streets of the small villages which are mostly near the coast. Evening return to Tropea’s port. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at your hotel accommodation.

Breakfast at the hotel. Free morning to spend pleasant hours in the beautiful beaches of Calabria (private beach or Lido affi liated). Consider visiting the Lighthouse in Capo Vaticano and transfer to the old town of Tropea, a typical medieval village built overlooking the sea. Visit the Cathedral and the main street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, which ends with a small square, from where you can dominate and enjoy the beautiful views of the Costa degli Dei. In the evening, return to the hotel. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at your hotel accommodation.

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer on your own by car to Matera, designated Capital of Culture 2019. Visit the city of stone, possibility of guided tour and tasting of typical products from Basilicata. Matera is called Stone City because the historic center of the city is made up of a number of houses and rooms built inside the natural caves of the rocky walls of the territory. The buildings were later expanded both inward, digging into the rock and outside, where it was reused carved stone inside to build new walls and thereby extend the inside of the houses. Later arrival and check-in at the hotel in the Bari area. Dinner on your own and overnight at the hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer on your own by car to Polignano A Mare, the city of great natural interest with its sea caves. You can also visit some important places of historical interest such as the city center and the remains of Roman ruins. The daily tour can continue with the visit of Monopoli, a historic town 40 km far from Bari, rich in monuments of historical and religious interest, where you can fi nd countless churches built over the centuries and perfectly preserved. Transfer to the Caves of Castellana (Grotte di Castellana), one of the most beautiful places of the whole territory. The caves are indeed spectacular underground cavities saddles that extend for several kilometers inward from the entry, a huge chasm of more than 60 meters called the “Grave”. In the evening, return to the hotel. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at your hotel accommodation.

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer on your own by car to Itria Valley and Martina Franca, a charming town, where in addition to the famous Trulli is also worth noting the city center. Walk in the old town where you can visit the beautiful Basilica of St. Martin. Transfer to Ostuni, the picturesque “white city” that stands on top of a hill, walk around in the city, visit the Baroque Cathedral and the 12th century castle ruins. You can then drive to Alberobello, a town inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, where you can visit the famous Trulli, white stone houses characterized by the famous conical roofs of gray slate. Return to your hotel in the evening. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at your hotel accommodation.

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer on your own by car to Lecce, called the Little Florence of the South. It is the center of baroque architecture. Walk around the city and explore, among others, Basilica of the Holy Cross, the most beautiful Baroque building in the area, Palazzo Celestini, Piazza del Duomo surrounded by numerous historic buildings, and a well-preserved Roman amphitheater from I BC. Later, transfer to Gallipoli, a fi shing town. Walk through the old town with remnants of the former splendor of Greece and Rome, and where there is the oldest fountain in Italy, built at the time of Greek domination. Narrow streets and charming cafes fully refl ect the atmosphere of the old town. In the evening, return to the hotel. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at your hotel accommodation.
